If your little artists want to make a one-of-a-kind gift for someone special, sign them up for this art class where they are free to smear, squeeze, splatter, and otherwise explore artistic possibilities. Bring a masterpiece home, and leave the mess behind!

It’s a Wonderful Life at BlackRock Center for the Arts
December 9th, 6 PM / Germantown / Birth – 17 years old

Love this classic Christmas movie? Then you’re going to really love this clever stage adaptation! It’s Christmas Eve, 1945. Four WVL Radio actors have braved the blizzard to perform that evening’s broadcast of It’s a Wonderful Life and keep their station afloat.

Pre-Ballet I at Kirov Academy of Ballet
December 8th, 15th, & 22nd, 10 AM / Brookland / 4 – 5 years old

It’s the season of the Nutcracker, and if you’re thinking about bringing your little ones to see a show, why not inspire them to discover their own inner ballerina. Tiny dancers will learn basic ballet steps and gain an understanding of music, all while developing a love of classic ballet.

Public Skating and Learn to Skate at Loudoun Ice Centre
Daily except Tuesdays and Saturdays, various times / Sterling / 4 – 16 years old

The holidays aren’t complete without a spin around an ice skating rink! Book some time during public skate or take a lesson if you’re feeling a bit shaky on the blades.

Roer’s Zoofari
Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays, various times / Vienna / 3 – 12 years old

While this zoo may not have actual reindeer, they do have lots of deer with antlers. Take your kiddos to visit with Dasher and Dancer’s distant cousins, spread some holiday cheer to the animals in the petting barn, and go on an up close and personal safari ride. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the company of family during the holidays!

Star Wars Themed Parents Night Out at the Transformational Education Adventure Center
December 14th, 6:40 PM / McLean / 3 – 12 years old

While Star Wars and the holidays don’t necessarily go hand in hand, a parents night out event and the chaotic holidays do! Drop your kids off for FOUR hours where they will play, eat pizza and ice cream, decorate cupcakes, watch a movie, get their face painted, and more! And you can use this much deserved time to get last minute shopping done, or even better, take a minute to relax!

The Elves & The Shoemaker at the Keegan Theatre
December 22nd, 11 AM / Dupont Circle / 4 – 17 years old

Take your kids out for an evening at the theatre. At this show, Eric, the lone shoemaker of Grimmsville, makes shoes that are miserably uncomfortable and impossible to walk in… find out when they encounter elves that help them make the perfect pair!

Winter Wonderland Ball and Pictures with Santa at Gymboree Play & Music
December 16th, 10 AM / Woodley Park / 6 months – 10 years old

This super fun gym and play space will be even more exciting than normal when Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick pays a visit!  Kids can tell Santa what they’d like for Christmas and snap a pic. Added bonus — you know your kids will be on their best behavior with this special guest in the house!
